Third Thursday at Museum London

  • Museum London 421 Ridout St N London, ON, N6A 5H4 Canada (map)

Join us for a look at collections through the lens of technology and its application to the Museum environment. London's TechAlliance and local start ups HMDTechnology, UnLondon's UnLab and 3D Co. reveal the scanning and printing process. Using historical objects, they share the possibilities this process offers to museums.

Looking to try out some technology yourself? Learn about 123D Catch, a smart phone app that automatically converts photos of objects into 3D models. Try it yourself and see how this app renders photographs of our historical artefacts into three-dimensional objects on your device. Then, join Bill Turkel and Devon Elliott of Western University's Department of History as they work with local artist James Kirkpatrick to offer a hands-on workshop of circuit bending, live electronics, sensors and sound sculpture.

Not enough geeking out for you? Then borrow one of our iPads (or BYOD) and take a tour of the Visible Storage area where a window opens onto regional artists past and present. The evening is accompanied by DJs and refreshments in celebration of International Museum Day.

Live music from DJ Halcyon
