Public Lecture: "The Anatomical Turn: Rethinking How Bodies Matter”

  • 121 Studios 123 Dundas St London, ON, N6A 1G1 Canada (map)

121 Studios is excited to host a public lecture featuring Diana Samu-Visser, doctoral candidate from the Department of English at Western University. This event is free and open to all!

Samu-Visser will present a paper entitled “The Anatomical Turn: Rethinking How Bodies Matter”. Taking you through a brief history of how the anatomical body has mattered as an object of study and as an aesthetic subject, this presentation will discuss Gunther von Hagens’ Body Worlds exhibition as a contemporary case study in which the visual arts and science of the human body intersect. You will be invited to consider the factors that influence how bodies matter, how we see them, and the contemporary interest in the aesthetics of anatomy.

We implore anyone with an interest in visual art, aesthetics, medical sciences, or media and information studies to join us!
